Veiling is prohibited, Hani Khan Sues

Hani Khan of San Mateo, Calif., said the store manager had told her to open her headscarf as part of "Look Policy" series of clothing stores, said the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said in a statement. Hani Khan was fired from his job at Abercrombie & Fitch store in California in February 2010, after he worked there for four months, when he refused to comply with a request that the store manager, said CAIR.

"When I was asked to open the cover of my head, after I was hired, my spirits dropped and I felt unwanted," said Hani Khan. "I, a grown-large in this country, where freedom of religion guaranteed Bill of Rights, feel sad," he said.

Once fired, Hani Khan complained to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which in September 2010 decided Hani Khan has been the victim of discrimination. He filed a lawsuit against Abercrombie & Fitch after mediation failed to reach agreement with the retailer, said CAIR.

"Abercrombie & Fitch can not hide behind" Look Policy "to justify violating the civil rights Hani Khan," said Araceli Marinez-Olguin, a lawyer representing it, in a statement quoted by AFP.

Abercrombie & Fitch, clothing retailers in the youth-oriented with a bad reputation because of its ad featuring a scantily clad young models, has repeatedly faced legal problems due to "Look Policy" of his. Similar case in 2008, a Muslim woman said a manager at Abercrombie & Fitch store in Milpitas, California, has written "rather than appearance Abercrombie" on the form the interview and refused to accept her as an employee after a Muslim woman filed a job application. Last year, the U.S. government sue the company for committing acts of discrimination in connection with the incident.
